Our intent is for children to be able to increasing apply an understanding of design thinking: the ability to solve problems by first exploring possible solutions using divergent thinking, then to use convergent thinking in order to refine these in searching for the best solution for the intended user. Alongside this, they develop a wide range of technical skills and understanding in the areas of structures, mechanisms, systems and food technology.

Children in KS1 and KS2 undertake a design and technology unit of learning in all six half-terms, often applying learning in other STEM subjects as part of problem-solving activities.
