Geography
‘Geography explains the past, illuminates the present and prepares us for the future. What could be more important than that?’ Michael Palin
Geography is integral to our Sense of place curriculum. We begin by teaching children to appreciate and navigate the spaces around our academy site. We then expand this focus to include the Marleigh locality, then the UK and wider world, making comparisons with similar and contrasting localities. As children move through the year groups they learn to use an increasing geographical vocabulary with which to express their understanding of physical and human geographical ideas. We take an active approach towards the teaching of geography, and children often engage in fieldwork, map reading, data collection and analysis.
