Learning in Physical Education (PE) is underpinned by a progressive curriculum, which facilitates learning in the physical, social, cognitive and affective domains. Students are offered the opportunity to enrich their physical literacy journeys through a series of activities which promote free movement, skill development, creativity and cognitive awareness, all taught through a series of sports and physical activities. Children will become physically literate, competent and enthusiastic students who understand, appreciate and peruse a physically active lifestyle within and outside of the school setting. Students will become independent thinkers and leaders within PE lessons, learning life skills that will enrich their daily lives whilst becoming role models for others around school. Our PE curriculum aims to progress the ‘whole’ child and offers a rich extra-curricular provision for further personal development. Our school offers the ‘Education’ alongside the ‘Physical’, allowing children to experience a rich experience, which will enhance their physical, social and mental wellbeing. Competition is weaved into our Physical Education curriculum and all children are given opportunities to experience this as they may not have had the opportunity outside of the school setting. Models such as Sport Education and Cooperative Learning have been adopted in Key Stage 2 to develop communication skills, independent learning and development of the school values (Reaching High, Respect, Resilience).

Physical Education is supplemented with Physical Activity in various forms throughout the school day, including Active Learning, Active Travel and Meaningful playtimes. This supplementation of movement throughout the school day is to ensure the recommended guidelines of 60 minutes of daily physical activity (30 in school 30 outside of school) is not only met but surpassed where possible to strengthen the health opportunities for our school subject.
