Design and technology
Design and Technology at Marleigh Primary Academy will aim to encourage children to learn to use their creativity and imagination, to design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts. Taking into consideration the diverse social backgrounds at Marleigh Primary Academy, we will aim to diminish the gaps by providing children with first-hand experiences. These will be provided by a variety of STEM backgrounds which prepare children to take part in the development of today’s rapidly changing world. At Marleigh Primary Academy, Design and Technology will encourage children to become autonomous and creative problem-solvers, both as individuals and as part of a team. Over time, the children will develop and build upon their skills which will follow the three main threshold concepts. It is our intention that children will develop the resilience to become innovators and risk-takers based upon knowledge, vocabulary and creative tasks.
These three main threshold concepts will underpin our Design and Technology teaching: –
- Master practical skills – this concept involves developing the skills needed to make high quality products.
- Design, make, evaluate and improve – this concept involves developing the process of design thinking and seeing design as a process.
- Take inspiration from design throughout history – this concept involves appreciating the design process that has influenced the products we use in everyday life.
