Geography
At Marleigh Primary Academy, Geography lessons will enable pupils to gain a coherent knowledge and understanding of the world in which they live which will be embedded into their long-term memories and the acquisition of new geographical skills. They will inspire pupils’ curiosity to know more about diverse places, people, resources and natural and human environments, together with a deep understanding of the Earth’s key physical and human processes. As pupils progress through the key stages, their growing knowledge about the world will help them to deepen their understanding of the interaction between physical and human processes, and of the formation and use of landscapes and environments.
These four main threshold concepts will underpin our Geography teaching and enable our pupils to develop a geography schema: –
- Investigate places – This concept involves understanding the geographical location of places and their physical and human features.
- Investigate patterns – This concept involves understanding the relationships between the physical features of places and the human activity within them, and the appreciation of how the world’s natural resources are used and transported.
Communicate geographically – This concept involves understanding geographical representations, vocabulary and techniques.
