At Marleigh Primary Academy, the safety and wellbeing of our students is always a top priority. That’s why we were delighted to welcome volunteers from the NSPCC (National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) this week to deliver their powerful ‘Speak Out, Stay Safe’ workshop to our Year 2 and Year 5 & 6 children.

What is ‘Speak Out, Stay Safe’?

The ‘Speak Out, Stay Safe’ programme is designed to help children understand their right to feel safe and secure. Delivered in a child-friendly and engaging way, it teaches them:
✅ How to recognise the signs of abuse and unsafe situations.
✅ The importance of speaking out and seeking help.
✅ Who they can turn to – such as trusted adults – if they ever feel worried or unsafe.

The workshop featured interactive activities, age-appropriate discussions, and practical guidance to help children build confidence in recognising when something doesn’t feel right and knowing what steps they can take.

Empowering Year 2 with Safety Knowledge

The Year 2 session introduced key safeguarding concepts in a sensitive and reassuring way. Through storytelling, simple language, and engaging visuals, the children learned that they have the right to be safe and that they should never feel scared to ask for help. The session also highlighted the NSPCC’s Childline service (0800 1111) – a safe space for children to call if they need support.

Building Confidence in Year 5 & 6

For our Year 5 and 6 students, the workshop tackled more complex themes, helping them develop a deeper understanding of personal safety, boundaries, and online safety. The children were encouraged to reflect on different scenarios and consider how they could respond or seek support. The interactive nature of the session allowed them to ask thoughtful questions and share their own ideas.

A Lasting Impact

Workshops like these play a vital role in fostering a culture of safety and openness in our school. By equipping children with the knowledge and confidence to speak out, we help them feel empowered to protect themselves and others.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the dedicated NSPCC volunteers for delivering such an impactful and meaningful session. Their compassionate approach and expertise made a lasting impression on the children, who left feeling more confident and aware.

We encourage families to continue these conversations at home – discussing personal safety, the importance of speaking up, and reminding children that there are always trusted adults they can turn to.
