Science Spotlight: Curious Minds at Work!
Science is all about being curious about the world around us, and across our school we want our children to see themselves as scientists: asking questions, exploring ideas and discovering how and why things happen.
Through our science curriculum, children are encouraged to ask questions, make predictions, observe carefully, investigate and explain their findings. Whether they are exploring the properties of everyday materials, investigating how plants grow, learning about animals and their habitats, or discovering more about the world around us, they are developing the knowledge and skills needed to think and work scientifically.
We particularly love seeing science come to life through practical, hands-on learning. Children have opportunities to investigate for themselves, discuss their observations, compare ideas and use evidence to help explain what they have discovered.
And some of the most important words we can hear in a science lesson are:
“Why?” “How?” and “What would happen if…?”
We want our children to know that they don’t always need to have the answer straight away. Being curious, wondering about something and wanting to find out more are all important parts of being a scientist.
After all, every great scientific discovery starts with a question!
