Something to Say: An Important Day of Safeguarding Learning
We were delighted to welcome Jeremy Indika, founder of Something to Say, to Fen Ditton Primary School for a day of powerful and important safeguarding workshops involving Key Stage 2 pupils from both Fen Ditton Primary School and Marleigh Primary Academy.
Throughout the day, Jeremy worked with children in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6, delivering engaging, age-appropriate sessions focused on body safety, online safety, recognising situations that might not feel right and understanding the importance of speaking up when something is worrying them.
One of the most important messages shared was that no child should ever feel they have to carry worries or difficult secrets alone. Jeremy encouraged the children to recognise the trusted adults in their lives, understand that their feelings matter and know that asking for help is a sign of courage and strength.
The workshops provided valuable opportunities for children to develop their understanding of personal safety, build confidence in recognising concerns and reinforce the message that they always have a voice and deserve to be heard.
Following the children’s workshops, Jeremy also delivered a thought-provoking safeguarding training session for staff from both schools. This explored the complexities of child abuse and exploitation, challenged common misconceptions and encouraged us to reflect on how we can continue to strengthen our approaches to recognising, responding to and preventing harm.
Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do across our school communities. We believe that keeping children safe involves not only having robust systems and procedures in place, but also empowering children with the knowledge, confidence and relationships they need to seek support when something is wrong.
Opportunities such as these are an important part of our commitment to creating school environments where every child feels safe, valued, listened to and supported.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Jeremy for sharing his knowledge, experiences and such important messages with our pupils and staff. His visit has provided valuable learning that will continue to inform our safeguarding practice and the conversations we have with children.
Together, we can help ensure that every child knows they have a voice, that their safety matters and that there is always someone they can turn to for help.
