Take 10 to Read: Celebrating the Joy of Reading at Marleigh!
On 8th October, Marleigh Primary Academy was delighted to take part in the National Literacy Trust’s Take 10 to Read campaign, joining schools and readers across the country in a wonderful celebration of books, stories and the power of reading.
Throughout the day, our children participated in a series of online reading webinars, connecting with other young readers from across the country. Each session included a dedicated 10-minute reading period, providing an opportunity for everyone to pause, pick up a book and become immersed in the wonderful world of reading.
As part of this exciting national event, we also logged our reading sessions to contribute towards a Guinness World Records™ attempt for the most people reading online in 12 hours! It was particularly exciting for our children to know that their reading was contributing to something much bigger, alongside thousands of other readers.
At Marleigh, we recognise that reading is so much more than an essential skill. It opens doors to new experiences, develops imagination, builds vocabulary and communication skills, and supports children’s wellbeing. Taking just 10 minutes out of a busy day to enjoy a book can make a real difference, helping children develop positive reading habits that can last a lifetime.
It was wonderful to see our school community embracing the opportunity to celebrate reading together. Whether exploring an exciting adventure, discovering fascinating facts or enjoying a favourite story, our children demonstrated their enthusiasm for books and the pleasure that reading can bring.
A huge well done to all our children for participating so enthusiastically and helping to make the day such a success.
Remember, 10 minutes of reading can take you anywhere!
We hope this experience inspires everyone to continue making time for reading, both in school and at home. After all, a lifelong love of reading begins with just a few minutes and a good book!
